The 27th Tampere Floral Festival 23-31 July 2010
The 27th Tampere Floral Festival will be arranged between 23– 31 July, 2010. The main scene of the festival is going to be the Central Square of Tampere and the nearby Frenckell area. There are also lots of separate events during the nine-day festival, and the programme and the concerts of well-known artists are all free of charge. The 26-meter-high Giant wheel at the Central Square will give an opportunity to see the festival and Tampere from a different point of view. On the Central Square it’s also possible to enjoy fresh pastries and coffee in a café or stop on a terrace for a refreshing drink. The festival’s own sweet floral tartlet is also served in a café.
The daily programme starts usually during the afternoon and the evening programme continues until 21.30.

Wine Village
Taste buds are satisfied in the Wine Village. From the Wine Village you can find food and wines from all corners of the globe and music and performers complement the enjoyment.
Something for everyone
Many other events are staged during the Tampere Floral Festival. The International Salsa festival offers various events during the Floral Festival and Samba Carnival on the festival’s closing day provide opportunities to move one’s hips in tune with vibrant latin rhythms. The fan-like structure of the Floral Festival easily allows co-operation between the different events. Something new and fascinating is on offer every year; no wonder visitors return time and time again to Tampere.
The Tampere Floral Festival offers something for everyone and that’s why it’s considered to be a family event. All aspects of the arts world are firmly on display during the Tampere Floral Festival.
The Tampere Floral Festival attracts every year thousands of local residents and visitors to enjoy a fragrant symphony of marvellous colours. Since 1984, the event annually has brought tens of thousands of visitors into the Tampere City Centre, which is decked out with many hundreds of floral arrengements and collections. Each year a lucky girl is named the Floral Princess and a prominent citizen receives the title of Floral Mayor. Both are in attendance at many events during the festival. The Floral Royalty will be elected from a group of senior citizens.
The Tampere Floral Festival is arranged by Tampere Tunnetuksi ry (The Promoting Tampere Association). The association promotes the business life of Tampere and seeks to enliven the city centre area. To achieve its aims, the organisation arranges several events in the city centre including the Floral Festival, the Festival of Light, opening of the Christmas season and the selection of the Local Citizen of the Year. Some 300 members (for example shops, department stores,shopping centres, restaurants & cafés, banks and insurance companies) belong to the association.
Programme
The Floral Festival is the most colourful and audience friendly summer event in the heart of Tampere city. Enjoy the diverse programme in the beautiful environment and relaxed atmosphere.
All programme performed on the floral stage is free of charge. There are different kinds of theme programmes in the Central Square during the daytime, in the early evening local dance groups are performing and later in the evening it is time to enjoy various music shows. The performers are mainly from Tampere and Tampere region.

A lot to see and to do the whole day! The Floral Mayor is opening the Floral Festival with the Floral Princess. Delicacy serving, Lapinniemi Big Band, Floral Parade, ”The best floral outfit” competition, floral charity auction, wind band music by Kotkien Puhallinorkesteri and much more!

At 12–16 Flower bouquet show: A chance to get to know the secrets of how to do beautiful flower bouquets. You also have a chance to buy a beautiful bouquet for yourself. Organized by Suomen Kukkakauppiasliitto.
At 15–19 Motorist Church in the Central Square at 18. Meeting in the front of the Old Church at 15. Performances by Maria Lund and Pirkanpojat Boys Choir, Motorist Church orchestra. Organized by Tampere Tunnetuksi ry (The Promoting Tampere Association) and The Evangelical Lutheran Congregations in Tampere. Contributions will be given to RuokaNysse’s charity.

Floral Terrace, Market Café and Wine Village
Meet friends in the Floral Terrace, enjoy summer, Tampere Central Square and refreshing drinks while the well-known artists are performing free of charge. This summer there will be a special grill in the terrace where you have the change to enjoy organic sausages and other grill food served by Karppila’s farm.
There are even organic wines and beer in the selection.
In the Floral Festival Market Café is a great place to meet new people and to have a chat with old friends. Enjoy fresh coffee and new baked pastries in the Wilenius Market Café!
In the Market Café you have the chance to see the programme performed on the floral stage.
Floral Terrace and Market Café are open daily.
Market Café opens already early in the morning (except on Sunday) and Floral Terrace at noon.
Wine Village of the Floral Festival is located in the North part of the Central Square, in the inner court of Frenckell area. The entrance to Wine Village is free of charge. In addition the taste buds are satisfied in the Wine Village, entertaining music is heard as well. Among others; Violist Seppo Suikkanen and Singer-Actor Sami Hintsanen

Giant Wheel
Giant Wheel is open every day from 12 until 22, except on Friday 23.7. from 14 until 22 and Sunday 25.7. from 12 until 20.
